Solving Quadratic Equations using Quadratic Formula

   If  $a{x}^2+bx+c$ = 0, then $x$ =  $\frac{\mathrm{-b}\pm \sqrt{b^2-\mathrm{4ac}}}{\mathrm{2a}}$

So, if  $x^2+3x-10$ = 0, then

     $x$ =  $\frac{-(3)\pm \sqrt{{(3)}^2-(4)(1)(-10)}}{(2)(1)}$

or, $x$ =  $\frac{\mathrm{-3}\pm \sqrt{9+40}}{2}$

or, $x$ =  $\frac{\mathrm{-3}\pm \sqrt{49}}{2}$

or, $x$ =  $\frac{\mathrm{-3}\pm 7}{2}$

or,  $x$ =  $\frac{4}{2}$ or,  $x$ =  $\frac{-10}{2}$

or,  $x$ =  $2$ or,  $x$ =  $-5$
