Solving Quadratic Equations using Quadratic Formula

   If  $a{x}^2+bx+c$ = 0, then $x$ =  $\frac{\mathrm{-b}\pm \sqrt{b^2-\mathrm{4ac}}}{\mathrm{2a}}$

So, if  $9x^2+8x-1$ = 0, then

     $x$ =  $\frac{-(8)\pm \sqrt{{(8)}^2-(4)(9)(-1)}}{(2)(9)}$

or, $x$ =  $\frac{\mathrm{-8}\pm \sqrt{64+36}}{\mathrm{18}}$

or, $x$ =  $\frac{\mathrm{-8}\pm \sqrt{100}}{\mathrm{18}}$

or, $x$ =  $\frac{\mathrm{-8}\pm 10}{\mathrm{18}}$

or,  $x$ =  $\frac{2}{18}$ or,  $x$ =  $\frac{-18}{18}$

or,  $x$ =  $\frac{1}{9}$ or,  $x$ =  $-1$
